About Us

Unleash the fighter in you.

JERICHO BOXING CLUB was founded in the mid-sixties by David Attan and  Muhammed Abdullah Kent ( Muhammed Abdullah Kent sparred with MUHAMMAD ALI in 1980 during the latter's visit to Kenya). The club is located in Nairobi's Eastlands area in the small and lively JERICHO ESTATE at JERICHO SOCIAL HALL along SHULE ROAD.

From then onwards the first breed of boxers to have come out of this revered gym were Saulo Odhiambo and Roy Mnala then came to the likes of ROBERT WANGILA , an Olympic Gold Medallist at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea (from childhood Wangila was small in stature but had an incredible fighting spirit) who was at the front line of Kenya's golden years in the world of boxing, the outstanding JOSEPH AKHASAMBA, GEORGE FOREMAN, LUCAS OMONDI, SANDE OTIENO, and MICHAEL MUIYA to mention just a few.

With the bar set so high with JERICHO BOXING CLUB having produced Olympic and World championship winners it's very difficult to match the achievements stated above but with the little resources at our disposal we have managed to have produced a few standout names in Kenyan boxing with the standout names being ROBERT OKAKA (Robert has just graduated to become a soldier in the KENYAN ARMY and absorbed into their boxing team) and DAVID KARANJA, Karanja is one promising boxer currently based in France (Both these guys are in the famed Kenya National Boxing Team, THE HIT SQUAD.

As a club we have a strong bias with regards to matters education as we believe that via education our young boys and girls are literally armed for life. Through getting an education not only can they express themselves clearly with regards to language but also to understand math and be in a position that they can chart the direction of the lives that they will get to lead in adulthood. With regards to this aim we have the SPONSOR A BOXER'S EDUCATION whereby the fees are paid directly paid to the school to ensure full accountability (If interested in sponsoring one of our boxer's education do not hesitate to get in touch with!) Currently two of our boxers are enrolled in an adult learning program so as to equip them, at the very least, with numeracy and language skills along with the academic papers that can be used to secure a job after school. At JBC Coach Elijah and Coach Bisto do not take lightly matters education and if one of our students is not in school they make sure to speak to the parent(s) of the boxer and make sure that the boxer, be it a male or female boxer, is getting some education.

We also try to instill noble virtues into our young boxers courtesy of conducting monthly environmental cleanups and tree planting exercises in our home area of Jericho clearing drainage systems to teach our boxers responsibility and ownership of the environments that they live in. This exercise helps to bring out the qualities of leadership out of our boxers.
