JERICHO BOXING CLUB COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

On the 3rd of March 2024 we had a small community clean up exercise led by DUDUZ SAFARIS in our area of Jericho Estate  cleaning up the nearby roads and mowing the lawn at HONO CRESCENT DISPENSARY which happens to act as a Mother and child welfare clinic for the women in the nearby Makadara, Maringo, Jericho and Kiambiu slums.

The purpose of this clean up was to make the area close to our gym clean and orderly but the true and intended lesson was to teach our boys ownership of the community that they live in and it is our hope that through such initiatives we can inculcate the values of leadership and responsibility as our young boys grow into men. Having seen clean and orderly countries such as SINGAPORE and the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, we would like to see Nairobi and ultimately Kenya grow into being as clean and orderly as the above named territories and we are ready to play a small part in this endeavor.

The good thing about this exercise is that it's not just an exercise but we try to build and instill the culture of leadership into our boxers. Boxing happens to be, as a matter of fact, one of the most demanding sports physically, mentally and emotionally meaning that by just seeing these boys show up at the gym everyday from Monday through to Friday from 5pm to 7pm shows the incredible heart that they have. It is this heart that we want to work on and have them direct the same energy towards education and environmental conservation through such initiatives.

Coach Bisto and Coach Elijah were at the forefront of the exercise leading the line showing the boys how to mow the lawn and make sure that the space looks clean and appropriate for the young mothers making their way to the clinic for check ups and assessments in a clean and serene environment.

This exercise will also help in raising their self esteem as they get to learn to be more self reliant and know the abundant energy that youth provides and they can direct this energy into more productive ventures that provide value to the community.

LEADERSHIP AND MENTORSHIP

Growing up in the Eastlands area of NAIROBI happens to be quite a tough experience as this happens to be a low income area and most families struggle to have regular meals in their respective households. These conditions provide a rife environment for creating delinquent youths that later down the road get to engage in crime and other nefarious activities and herein comes Jericho Boxing Club.

Jericho has produced a good number of criminals that have had the cops shrieking in fear over the years with the most prominent being EDWARD MAINA SHIMOLI who at one time was the country's most wanted man. But on the same note this Estate has also produced some stellar names revered all over the continent like an Olympic gold medallist ROBERT WANGILA, Former EDUCATION CABINET SECRETARY GEORGE MAGOHA and the widely acclaimed and respected Professor P.L.O LUMUMBA.

This boxing club plays a vital role in the community with regards to teaching the young men and women discipline through sport thereby diverting their attention from crime and building a possible career in boxing but most importantly showing the value of school as education happens to be one of the areas that we champion for the most as jERICHO BOXING CLUB hence the reason why we have the  SPONSOR A BOXER'S EDUCATION as some of our kids are sent home from school for even four digit school balances which exposes them to the rowdy delinquents in the Estates. Equally important is the mentorship programme with the aim of raising their perspective in life and pushing them to become the best that they could be. This is achieved by having the older and more mature boxers pass by the gym for training but most importantly to come in as a big brother/father figure as a good number of our kids come from single mother households giving invaluable advice to the youths urging them to stay on the right track and focus on the goals that they would like to achieve and make something special of their talents as the seniors also passed by the same trials and tribulations.
