Video 4: Live Boxing in Jericho

Our boxing club is led by two passionate gentlemen with over 60 years experience in the world of boxing.

These two gentlemen are known as Coach Nixon Bisto and Coach Elijah Mringie.

COACH BISTO

Coach Bisto is a very jovial man and he likes to make fun of literally everyone in the vicinity. Tall and slender, he is always ready to have a laugh at anytime outside the gym but once it gets to serious matters you wouldn't want to joke with him. Inside the gym he is very serious and professional with very high standards demanding the most of each and everyone of our students with regards to improving their educational levels with the same zeal that they show when it comes to boxing.

Having begun boxing at Jericho Boxing Club in 1984 and represented various boxing clubs during the years that he was active like Nairobi City Council (NCC), KIMBO (Bidco Africa), International Center for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF). When active he boxed as a Feather- Weight, Light-Weight, Light-Welter Weight and then briefly as a Welter-Weight at the end of being active.

This year will be Coach Bisto's 40th year of being active in the world of boxing. Coach Bisto's daughter, Siena is also a champion in boxing. Being a Father himself Coach Bisto is a father figure to our boxers bringing that empathetic and understanding ear to our boxers but also very serious when it comes to demamnding that the student athletes give their best while at the gym and in school.

COACH ELIJAH

Coach Elijah is a quiet and observant man (as is required of a boxing Coach). Doesn't talk much but when he says something it's always sensible. A through snd through boxing man, for Coach Elijah boxing is everything!

His polite manner can make you mistake him for a softie but you would be in for a rude shock. He is fitter and stronger than 90% of the men in his age group worldwide and add to that his boxing experience means you are looking at a fighting man and fighting men are not to be played with.

Coach Elijah started boxing due to the bullying that was rampant in the city estates in the 90's. He started boxing at Jericho Boxing club then went on to have represented Kenya Posta, Kimbo (Bidco) and the Kenya Police boxing teams in the Kenyan boxing league then he turned professional in the year 2001 and it's in 2018 that the idea of coaching came to mind.

Coach Elijah has trained and mentored a few boxers like Emmanuel Chondo, Bonface Nzangi, Glenn Muiya, Glenn Agade with the standout being ROBERT OKAKA who has represented Kenya in Continental competition and is now working and representing the Kenya Army (KDF) boxing team.
