Unleash the fighter in you.
Boxing is generally looked at as a man's sport but at Jericho Boxing Club we take a slightly different view at this matter as we have a soft spot for ladies. Both our Coaches have daughters and as such have come to extend the same warmth and courtesy to our female boxers thus providing that father figure to the girls. Coach Bisto's daughter is a competitive boxer herself under the tutelage of her father.
Courtesy of this, we are always open to training girls that have an interest in boxing. Most of our lady boxers are in High School and unfortunately this means that a good number of them are away when school is in session but when the schools are in recess the girls always show up and show out!
Boxing has multiple benefits for the female populace such as:
Empowerment through Physical and Mental Strength: Boxing offers women a powerful platform for empowerment, both physically and mentally. In a society where gender norms may limit women's activities, boxing provides an avenue for breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes. Through rigorous training and honing of skills, women in Kenya can develop a strong sense of physical capability and mental resilience, fostering a greater sense of confidence and self-worth.
Self-Defense and Personal Safety: In a world where personal safety can be a concern (especially for women) boxing equips individuals with practical self-defense skills. Learning boxing techniques not only improves physical fitness but also provides women with the ability to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations. In the world today, where issues of safety and security are prevalent, especially in urban areas, boxing can offer women a sense of empowerment and assurance.
Promotion of Health and Fitness: Engaging in boxing promotes overall health and fitness, offering women in Kenya an opportunity to lead active and healthy lifestyles. Boxing training involves a combination of cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and flexibility work, contributing to improved physical health and well-being. With rising concerns about non-communicable diseases such as obesity and diabetes, particularly among women in Kenya, participating in boxing can help combat these health challenges.
Building Camaraderie and Community: Boxing fosters a sense of camaraderie and community among its practitioners. In Kenya, where social support systems are crucial, especially for women facing various societal challenges, boxing clubs and gyms can serve as inclusive spaces where women can connect with like-minded individuals, share experiences, and support each other's personal and athletic development. This sense of community can provide invaluable emotional support and encouragement, promoting mental health and resilience.
Opportunities for Competition and Achievement: Participating in boxing opens doors to opportunities for competition and achievement. In Kenya, where sports are celebrated and admired, women boxers have the chance to showcase their skills and talents on local, national, and even international stages. By competing in boxing tournaments and championships, women can not only gain recognition for their athletic abilities but also serve as role models for younger generations, inspiring them to pursue their own sporting dreams.
Breaking Gender Stereotypes and Promoting Gender Equality: By engaging in traditionally male-dominated sports like boxing, women in Kenya challenge gender stereotypes and promote gender equality. Through their participation and success in boxing, women demonstrate that they are equally capable of excelling in physically demanding and competitive endeavors. This helps to shift societal perceptions about women's roles and capabilities, paving the way for greater gender inclusivity and empowerment across all sectors of society.
In conclusion, boxing offers women in Kenya a multitude of benefits, including empowerment, self-defense skills, improved health and fitness, community support, competitive opportunities and the chance to challenge gender stereotypes. By embracing boxing, women can not only enhance their physical and mental well-being but also contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
